Not atall. It’s actually very low risk in terms of serious life threatening events. However it can cause incontinence, pain , infection and erectile issues in some cases. Many newer forms of prostate surgeries are now available- using laser - which even very low complication risk. If you really need a prostatectomy- as in for prostate CA- you should go for it.

It's not an emergency however you may need a colonoscopy to rule out inflammatory bowel disease like crohn's or ulcerative colitis.

Recovery after surgery?

Sounds like he injured a nerve during the surgery. It may be reversible with physical therapy but can take a while. Please consult a neurologist.
