No doctor can promise you a cure “fix”. What I can say, is that in my 28 years of experience, I have helped many patients with scoliosis not get worse or sometimes even straighter. I would need to see current X-rays of your scoliosis with you standing to determine the severity and also the likelihood of straightening or even just slowing down the progression of scoliosis. It has been estimated that 75% of scoliosis patients get worse curvature over time. So, it is a progressive condition in most people. What is important is to have regular visits to an Orthopedic Physician to keep a knowledge on your Scoliosis progression. The American Orthopedic Association (AOA), recommends a yearly standing X-ray of patients Scoliosis for this reason. If your scoliosis is more on the mild side, then I may be able to help you. Please set up a consultation with me so we can review your specific spinal details.

If the “hip” your referring to is the sacroiliac joint stuck, just a few Chiropractic adjustment’s to the Sacroiliac joint that is stuck will create pain relief typically. You are very young, so the prognosis in this case would be very good in resolving this joint dysfunction. Many times people call their Sacroiliac joint, their “hip joint”. Although, if the “hip” joint your referring to is the actual hip joint where your femur (thigh bone) is articulating with the acetabulum of the Iliac bone, that could require Orthopedic care. I would need to know how often to specifically answer that question. Also, I would need to know your specific spinal condition or conditions to appropriately answer. I would in general say that of course too much of anything is too much. Yet, the biggest problem we have in our society regarding Chiropractic treatment, is a lack of any treatment at all. The Chiropractor should detail a specific treatment plan for you based on your specific condition and health history. This would also include a through examination and review of any imaging studies (X-rays, MRI or CT Scan) or lab studies. The Chiropractor should communicate to you their specific rationale for the recommended frequency of Chiropractic treatments for you and schedule a re-examination of you within a month’s time, or earlier if your condition worsens or doesn’t improve. Usually, your treatment frequency should reduce in frequency. For example, twice a week of two weeks, then once per week for two weeks. If your re-exam shows your improving well, then treatments can be further spaced apart to once every 2 weeks and then once a month until you are at maximum improvement and released from Chiropractic treatment for your spinal condition. As a general rule, you should be improving within the first several weeks of your treatment schedule, or else the Chiropractor should either change your treatment plan completely or refer your out to another Medical Specialist.

Most Chiropractors will offer you this option if you would prefer the Instrument Adjustments instead.

A pediatric chiropractor has additional education beyond their Doctor of Chiropractic degree and examinations. To be recognized as a specialist Pediatric Chiropractor, after taking years of additional studies, they would need to pass a Board exam by the Chiropractic Pediatric Board. They have additional knowledge of childhood conditions and Chiropractic treatment thereof. Many also employ nutritional and therapeutic exercises in helping this age group. Most parents have good experiences from incorporating a Board Certified Pediatric Chiropractor within their child’s healthcare regime. I would always check a practitioner’s reviews on the internet along with possibly a word of mouth recommendation before choosing the Pediatric Chiropractor for your child to see. Just as you would for choosing a practitioner for yourself.

Yes you can live a long life with Scoliosis. Approximately, 75% of patients with Scoliosis, get a more severe angulation over time though. If the angulation gets over 50 degrees, it can cause pressure on vital organs like the lungs and kidneys. If the convex Iry in the middle back spine is to the left, it can even squeeze the Heart If this happens, your Orthopedic Physician may suggest Spinal Surgery in this case. If not to this point, Physical Therapy that would include exercises to strengthen the muscles that connect to your Spine. If your Scoliosis is a mild case, 10-20 degrees, Chiropractic treatment may be helpful along with the strengthening exercises in helping to stabilize the Spinal scoliosis from getting any worse. I have seen many cases where the Spine straightens up and the scoliosis reduces in angulation. So, if it is a mild Scoliosis, I would definitely recommend you see a experienced Chiropractor who has a lot of experience treating Scoliosis in their practice. If they can help you, they should be able to specifically explain how and why they can help your Scoliosis. Current standing X-rays of your Spine would be necessary for the Chiropractor to make this determination. Conversely, if you have a serious Scoliosis (>30 degrees) angulation, then I suggest that you seek immediate Medical treatment from a Orthopedic Physician. I like to catch this spinal condition when it’s in it’s beginning stages or in the mild angulation where Chiropractic many times can help along with specific exercises. So, while you can “live” a long life with Scoliosis, it may be a life filled with pain or even worse vital organ problems if you don’t manage this condition properly. Treatment is a viable option without surgery if treated earlier enough. Yet, if left untreated, Spinal Surgery many times becomes necessary.
