If the toe is still red, it is possible you may have an infection. It's also possible the toe may be broken. It takes 6 months to a year for a new nail to regrow. The nail should grow back. It should grow back normally, but it is possible the nail regrows differently than before or doesn't grow back at all. I would recommend making an appointment with your local podiatrist to make sure you didnt break your toe.
