Hello Family!
I’m Dr. Kelenne, your Board Certified Family Medicine Physician and Concierge Physician who helps busy professionals achieve optimal health on the go. Let's talk about the "TOP TEN FOODS TO HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT!"
Every day, I have patients come into my office asking, "Dr. Tuitt, what can I do to lose weight quickly?" Despite the hundreds of fad diets available, there is no healthy way to lose weight quickly. A pill can help reduce your appetite but it will not sustain the weight loss in the long run. Surgical procedures in the right patient can have benefits but there are serious complications that can occur. With both medical and surgical interventions you have to go back to the basics of eating healthy meals, at healthy portions in order to sustain the weight loss.
Here are 10 foods that can help you with your weight loss goals.
1. Grapefruits
If you eat half of a grapefruit 30 minutes before a meal, it can reduce your appetite, which leads to weight loss. It also helps reduce insulin resistance.
2. Whole eggs
They are high in protein, high in fat, and low in calories. It also helps you to feel full longer.
3. Avocados
Avocados are a fruit, and it has a lot of healthy fats that can help with weight loss.
4. Beans
Lentils, black beans, and kidney beans are high in protein and fiber. They can also give you longer satiety.
5. Salmon and Tuna
Salmon and tuna are lean and low in fat. They have omega-3 fatty acids, high protein content and low in calories. Be careful with salmon as it has a high amount of iodine. If you have thyroid problems, you may want to limit the amount you eat.
6. Cruciferous vegetables
This includes broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and brussels sprouts. They're high in fiber and allow you to feel fuller longer.
7. Coconut oil
Coconut oil is a medium-chain fatty acid, which helps you feel fuller longer. Use it as a substitute for vegetable or corn oil. Another example would be extra virgin olive oil, which is one of the healthiest fats to incorporate in your diet.
8. Cottage Cheese and Greek Yogurt
These are dairy products full of protein, low in fat, and chock full of calcium that can assist with the burning of fat.
9. Nuts
Nuts are a great snack. You don't want to eat too many nuts because they are high in calories, but they're a great combination of protein, fiber, and healthy fats.
10. Green leafy vegetables
Green leafy vegetables include kale, spinach, Swiss chard, and collard greens. They're low in calories, low carbs, and they're high in fiber. So you can increase the volume of your food without increasing your weight.
If you go back to the fundamentals and learn how to eat properly, your weight loss will be successful and sustainable. It's not a diet; it’s a lifelong healthy lifestyle. If you do it, you'll be able to teach your children how to do it, and we will combat generational chronic illness.
