If the sudden hearing loss is caused by something like an earwax impaction, it can certainly be treated. If the sudden hearing loss is related to a nerve-type loss, there may not be much to do medically after about a week. While the hearing may not return, you may be a candidate for a specific type of hearing aid technology known as a CROS. I would recommend visiting an ear, nose, and throat specialist to evaluate the sudden hearing loss as a first step.

Hearing loss can be caused by genetics, or be hereditary. I would recommend having a hearing test prior to any problems to establish a baseline. This gives you an idea of how your hearing is right now, and as you age you can refer back to it to see what (if any) changes occur. Then, if there is a hearing loss, you will be ready to treat it early. Treating a hearing loss early has been shown to have better outcomes with hearing aids, decrease the rate of cognitive decline, and reduce your fall risk.

I don't have enough information here to fully answer your question; however, I know that many people with balance disorders benefit from taking walks while keeping their heads level or slightly raised. Some people benefit from participating in low level yoga courses or other fitness courses to help strengthen their balance system. Ask your doctor if you are medically cleared to join a fitness course prior to joining. Depending on your diagnosis, you may also benefit from reducing sodium in your diet.

Some pediatricians have a screening audiometer that allows them to generally see if a child's hearing is okay or in need of full testing. You will need to ask your pediatrician if they have these. A screening is not a substitute for a full hearing evaluation. If you are having concerns about your child's hearing, I would seek out an audiologist specialized in pediatrics.
