Fatty tissue is a storage organ and for that reason fatty deposits can grow after liposuction, if there is weight gain. Liposuction, if performed appropriately, contours areas that have disproportionate deposits of fat. Not all the fat is ever removed. What is permanent, is the new “shape” that the liposuction produces. What you do to maintain that shape, is up to you.

Surgery of any kind leaves a scar. The quality of the scar depends on how the incision is aligned to natural skin creases, the skill of the surgeon and how carefully the wound is repaired. Wrist scars are a bit more unpredictable than in many other sites but there will be a visible scar. If your surgeon can keep the incision within your palm the scar will certainly be a lot better.

A lot depends on how extensive the planned surgery has to be. However, even with major work, most patients do not have a great deal of pain and are up and almost back to normal in a few days. When I say normal, I mean activity, because you certainly won't look normal. Swelling is variable, but lasts a few weeks, and bruising may take a little longer. Subtle improvement continues for several more weeks, and I tell my patients that they won't see their final result for about three months and that any concerns will not really be taken "seriously" until then.

How long after a facelift will I look normal?

You have to define “normal,” because you won’t have your final result for about 3 months. However, you should be fairly presentable apart from some bruising and moderate swelling by 10 to 14 days on average. There are so many variables after surgery, and if your eyelids are done at the same time, you will look a lot more “scary” for a week or two.

Have your surgeon do virtual before and afters for you so that you have input into the process. Remember, surgery is not a perfect art and nowhere is this more evident than in rhinoplasty.

There are several reasons why you should wear compression garments. Firstly, you will have loose skin that needs time to shrink. Add to that your bruising and swelling that is largely controlled by compression. Secondly, most patients feel as though their skin is loose (and it is), and are much more comfortable in a snug garment. With that comes significant pain relief. Lastly, for all of the above reasons you are more likely to get a better result and see it sooner if you use compression. The larger the amount of fat removed, the more important it is.
