With a mere six months to his presidency, Joe Biden is defying the odds and declaring that no more lives will be lost to the game of nation building in America's longest war i.e. Afghanistan as the Taliban surges with unexpected speed and effectiveness. Thousands of Afghanistan's people are surging into C-17 Air Force jets while scores of others cling to the outer surfaces of the plane and lose their lives as the plane surges skyward. It now appears that the Biden administration was warned about the ineffectiveness of Afghan armed services which had no faith in their president and leadership. Billions of dollars was spent supporting a corrupt Afghan president who built irises for foreign visitors and build his pockets with profit having barely enough time to get out of Afghanistan before the Taliban Hammer fell. Well the Trump administration was responsible for the ultimate sellout of Afghanistan to the Taliban they have been enough warnings in the past 20 years to allow the situation to be better understood.
As far as the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic is concerned, we are dealing with about 40,000 new cases per day mostly in unvaccinated people living in Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida, Texas, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and North Dakota. Basically, a pattern of Republican government states with low educational levels and income. It would clearly be very long time before electoral change on the basis of population change could take place particularly with voter suppression being engaged in nationwide by GOP Trump supporters and the GOP generally. With all this is the question of how much time we have to affect the necessary changes to avoid disaster. The Biden administration does not seem to recognize that speed is necessary and such issues as H20 conservation, support of the poor, gun control, mandatory vaccination, and masking have to have Federal (Executive) support. Super spreader events like the Sturgis Motorcycle meet, exhibition football, and regular baseball are accelerating the surge of the Delta variation of the COVID-19 virus. Don't stand at the finish line, waiting for death disillusionment, and hate to cross first.
