I am Awful with Technology.
I've said it before, and I'll likely say it again...
And again...
And again.
Every time I try to Do "Anything" New with Technology...
I Inevitably come across things that I do Not Understand...
Get Frustrated By...
And Eventually I come to some Conclusion...
Usually by Resetting Things or Getting Help from a Tech Specialist.
It is like a Curse.
This also Tends to happen whenever I get New Tech, as I try to Navigate things I Do Not Understand.
Which I'm Sure the Techies Out There will Find My Plight Laughable, but such is Life.
Today has been One of those Days where the Stressors have Added On Top of Each Other.
I'm in the Process of making Upgrades to My Home Office and Studio Space, where I will be Streaming and Recording TV/Podcast Episodes from.
Now Here's the Thing...
I have a Stream that I have to Be Ready for Tomorrow.
So, I had to Ask the Question...
Was I Prepared?
The Short Answer was No, I was Not.
Which brings us to the Next Question I Had to Ask...
What Did I Need to Do to Be Prepared?
I Know My Luck with Technology, so I Figured I Knew the Answer...
"Way" More Time than I Would Imagine that I Need to Prepare.
This is What I Know about Life and Planning...
If You Are Not Prepared...
And You "Also" Do Not Give Yourself a "Lot" of Time to Prepare?
You're Going to Give Yourself Some "Major" Headaches.
This is How the Psychophysiology Works...
All Stress Adds.
What does this Mean?
The More Stressors You Have...
The Harder Life Becomes...
The More Likely You Are to Go "Past" Your Stress Threshold...
Which is to Total Number of Stressors You Can Handle Simultaneously and Effectively...
Then, Once You Go Past that Threshold...
The Worst You Become in Everything You Do.
So, I Gave Myself About Half a Day Today to Make Sure, Test, and Adjust for Any Problems I was Having with Tech, so that I'd be Ready for Tomorrow...
And It is a Great Thing that I Did.
Why?
It Took Me About 6 Hours In Total.
Let's Start with the New Tech I was Working With...
It was a New Monitor that I am Adding to a Setup that is Already Fairly Intense (Lights, Microphone, Standing Desk, etc.).
I am also in a Room where there is "One" AC Unit...
In Texas...
So the Heat got to Nearly 110 Degrees Fahrenheit at one point today.
This Room is also on the Far Side of the House, so it requires a Wi-Fi Extender to get Adequate Use of the Internet...
Necessary for High Quality Streams and Recording.
With this, I also recently had to Upgrade my Phone...
Which honestly was about 2 Years Overdue because I Loathe Getting New Technology when I Do Not "Need" To.
Now You are Prepared to Understand Why it Took 6 Hours to Install a Computer Monitor...
Something that should have Only Taken about An Hour Tops, with Getting the Stream Software Prepped for the New Tech.
It Began Very Simply...
Plug the Monitor In.
Simple.
Got the Computer Set Up so that the Displays Showed and Worked the Way I Wanted.
Took About 10 Minutes.
Doing Great...
Testing and Preping the Stream Software so that it was Ready for Tomorrow...
Mostly Configuring Layouts based on New Screen Sizes...
About 30 Minutes.
Awesome...
Then...
The Tech and AC All Turned Off.
What Happened?
I Overloaded the Circuit.
Great.
This left me in a Conundrum where my Options were to Get Rid of the Monitor I needed for this Setup...
Or Work without the AC...
In Over 100-Degree Heat.
I've Done That in the Past to Make Ends Meet - It is "Not" Something I Wanted to Do.
Neither Option was Acceptable.
So, until we can have a Professional look at everything...
I had to Find an Extension Cord and "Borrow" Power from Another Part of the House.
So, One Problem Solved.
Then, I was looking at My WiFi Strength...
It was Not Working the Way it was Supposed To.
Which is a Huge Problem for Streaming and Recording Effectively.
What was Happening?
Well, with a Bit of Detetive Work...
I Discovered that when I Overloaded the Circuit...
It seems that the Extender Lost Its Power...
Then it Did Not want to Connect Correctly.
So, I had to Use a Phone App to Try to Re-Connect with the Extender to Reconnect to the WiFi...
Except...
I have a New Phone.
So, I had to try to Re-Login to the WiFi Extender...
But it was Not Working "At All".
So, I went to Try to Reset the Password...
Pretty Typical Response...
But the Program would Not Allow me to "Do" that through the App and Forced me to Use a Website on my Computer...
Except the Instructions Were Not Working in the Slightest.
Nothing Matched what the Instructions were Saying.
I Tried Multiple Things...
History Reset...
Different Websites Recommended...
Turn Off and Turn On...
I Looked at Other Sites where people Discussed How to Fix the Issue...
Nothing Worked.
Now, to be fair...
The Problem "May" have been My Own Incompetencies, but I'll Never Know.
Because after a Few Hours of Attempting to Do This...
I Decided that it would be Easier to Do a Factory Reset of the Extender System.
So, that Took Another 30ish Minutes to Accomplish...
On Top of the Time I had Already Spent Trying to Do Everything Else...
But...
I Did It.
WiFi is Flawless Again.
It Only Took 6 Hours to Do what Should have Taken Less than an Hour.
Story of My Life.
Now...
Here's the Thing...
What Would have Happened if I had "Waited" to Do All this Testing and Prep Work?
I would have been Scrambling Tomorrow like a Mad Moron Attempting to Call Tech People Left and Right...
Who All would have Been Frustrated with My Ineptitudes...
Or at Least I would have Perceived them as Being Frustrated with Me...
All of My Own Doing, Of Course because I Waited Too Long...
But Ultimately, I Would Likely have Failed to be Ready to Stream When I Needed To...
Which would have Let a Lot of People Down who are Important to Me.
Not to Mention My Own Disappointment in Myself if it Had Happened.
Here's the Important Lesson...
Life Will Throw Things at You That You Were Never Expecting.
When Things "Can" Go Wrong...
They Usually Find A Way To Do So.
Whether You Are Ready for Them or Not.
You Will Be Hit Left and Right...
Sometimes, on things that Seem Rather Mundane.
If You Do Not Prepare...
Your Stressors Will Become Magnified Based On Pressure.
Was I Frustrated Today?
Absolutely!
But How Much "Worse" Would It Have Been Tomorrow?
About a Million Times Worse.
Today, I was Able to Give Myself Enough Grace for Understanding My Own Weaknesses...
Tomorrow I May Not Have Been Able To Do That "In The Moment".
Always Try to Think Ahead on the Challenges You Face.
Try to Think of What "Could" Go Wrong...
Then Expect there to be Unexpected Challenges...
Once You Do This...
Ensure that You Have Enough Time to "Handle" All of That with Grace.
