Today I saw the work of an artist I follow, and there was a Quote they attached to their piece...

"Most quit here. But you... you endure. That's the difference."

I was thinking about this in the Context of Our World Today.

It is True.

Most People Quit.

They Quit on Their Goals and Dreams.

They Quit on Pushing Themselves to Become Better.

They Quit on Even Trying.

It is Rare for a Person to Endure.

To Push Themselves to the Extremes of Their Abilities.

To Continue Down Paths that are Difficult.

There are Few People who Truly have Endurance and Resilience in Life.

But here's an Interesting Question...

Why?

I think that, Fundamentally, most people Misunderstand Endurance and Resilience.

It Does Not Matter what Type of Endurance or Resilience we are Speaking About...

Physical.

Emotional.

Mental.

Spiritual.

Endurance and Resilience in All of Their Forms are Rooted in the Same Place when We Look at Psychophysiology.

This is Where Most People Go Wrong.

When I talk to Most People about Endurance and Resilience, they tend to have the Same Two Thoughts...

The First is that they Do Not Believe they are Physically Strong Enough Handle the Endurance or Resilience.

I Frequently Encounter this During Spartan Races.

I have a Tendency to Do More Races or Go the Longer Distances in Comparison to Most People.

Just to Give You an Idea...

This Past Weekend, I went to a Spartan OCR (Obstacle Course Race) Event.

There were Three Races Over the Weekend.

Nearly 1,150 Individuals participated in the 5k (3.1 Mi) OCR Race with 20 Obstacles.

Just Over 325 Individuals participated in the 10k (6.2 Mi) Trail Race, No Obstacles.

Only 60 Individuals participated in the 10k (6.2 Mi) OCR Race with 26 Obstacles.

But Me?

I Did All Three in the Same Weekend...

Despite Feeling Horribly Sick after the First Race.

Most People can't Imagine Doing One of those Races...

Let Alone Multiple Races...

Especially if You are Not Feeling Great.

The Second is that they Do Not Believe that they can Handle the Endurance and Resilience from a Mindset Perspective.

I Encounter this frequently when it comes to Writing.

Many people call themselves Writers.

Few People Consistently Publish Writing.

I Know because I See It All the Time.

One of the Platforms I Publish to Keeps Track of Your Publishing Streak.

If You Publish an Article Every Day, the Streak Continues to Grow.

There are Over 85,000 Writers on that Platform.

Out of those, Only 14 Have Published Daily for Over 365 Days.

Out of those, Only 1 Individual has Published Daily for Over 730 Days, or 2 Years...

That Person is Me.

And this Article, today, it will be Day 872 Straight.

Now, here's the Thing...

Both of These Beliefs are Wrong.

It Does Not take Extreme Physical Strength to have Endurance and Resilience.

It Does Not take a Perfect Mindset to have Endurance and Resilience.

I would Know...

I am Not Exceptional at Either.

I Know Many People who are Significantly Stronger than I am Physically, and Many People who have a Better Mindset than Me.

Yet, Many of Them Do Not Endure.

By Many Definitions of the Word, They are Better and More Talented than I Am.

But Physical Strength and Mindset Do Not Determine Endurance and Resilience.

So What Does?

Let me Ask a Different Question to Highlight Something Important...

What is the Same within All of these Categories that Requires Endurance and Resilience...

Physical...

Mental...

Emotional...

Spiritual?

What is the Same?

Everything in Our Lives that Requires Us to have Endurance and Resilience is, Fundamentally, a Stressor.

If something Is Not a Stressor...

Then We Do Not Need Resilience or Endurance.

It is Only when we Face a Stressor...

Physical...

Mental...

Emotional...

Spiritual...

That We Must Either Engage in Endurance and Resilience...

Or Give Up.

But here's the Secret...

All Forms of Stressors Act Similarly in the Body.

From a Psychophysiological Perspective...

It Does Not Matter What Type of Stressor You Face...

Your Body Works Similarly within Each.

So, What Happens in Our Bodies?

Think of it like this...

All Stress Adds.

It Does Not Matter the Type.

They Add within Our Bodies.

As We Add More Stressors, We Begin to Approach a Point...

This is what is Known as the "Stress Threshold".

Up Until the Stress Threshold, Our Bodies are Able to Allocate Energy (Mg-ATP) Effectively to Handle All Demands of Any Stressors.

But as Soon as We Go "Past" the Stress Threshold?

We Begin to Enter Dis-Stress.

What happens here is that Body begins to Realize that More Energy (Mg-ATP) is Going Out than can Effectively be Produced.

The Result?

The Body Initiates Survival Mode, where We Become Less Effective.

The Further into Dis-Stress that We Go, the more Ineffective We Become.

If We Go Too Far into Dis-Stress?

The Body's Go-To Solutions are Escape or Giving Up.

So Why Do Most People Give Up?

They are Facing Too Many Simultaneous Stressors that their Bodies are Currently Unable to Handle...

So, Naturally, They Seek Escape or Quitting.

It has Nothing to Do with their Physical Strength or Mindset.

It has Everything to Do with their Current Stress Threshold and Total Stressors they are Experiencing.

Which makes the Key to Endurance and Resilience Quite Simple...

Lower Total Stressors and Increase Your Stress Threshold in the Areas You Want to Perform.

But here is Something Else that is Quite Interesting...

We Can Go Past What We "Believe" Are Our Limits...

As Long as Our Total Stressors Remain Below the Stress Threshold.

This is Something that I Relied On Heavily this Weekend for My Three Races.

The Reason is that Our Minds Put "False Limits" On Our Potential.

This is also a Survival Technique Designed to Conserve Energy (Mg-ATP).

But, it is Absolutely Possible to Exceed those False Limits, Especially for Short Periods of Time.

The Reason I am Able to Do This, When I Want, is because I've become Excellent at Understanding and Handling My Stressors in my Life.

Just Today, my WHOOP Band told me that I Experienced...

"0 Minutes in High Stress".

That is Not a Typo.

This does Not Mean I haven't Experienced Stress at all today.

My Work is Filled with Stressors.

My Body has not Fully Recovered from the Races this Weekend, but I'm around 85% Recovered.

Not to Mention the Stressors of Family, even when You Dearly Love Them and would have it No Other Way.

But I have Worked on Lowering My Total Stressors in My Life and in My Body, and I have Worked on Increasing My Stress Threshold.

Combined, it means that I have Far More Endurance and Resilience than Most Would Suspect.

This becomes the Power of Understanding and Improving Your Psychophysiology.

Imagine being able to Handle Every...

Physical...

Mental...

Emotional...

Spiritual...

Stressor with Relative Ease.

Not that it is "Easy", because Nothing Worth Doing in Life is Easy...

But You Remain Capable and Fully at Your Best Abilities to Overcome those Stressors, "Despite" the Challenge They Present.

This is Not a Special Gift for the Few...

This is a Natural Part of Being Human that "Anyone" Can Do.

Including You.

Others May Quit Here...

But You...

You Do Not Have To...

You Endure.
