7. Brace your coughs
With new lungs without cystic fibrosis mutated cells, you will probably cough less than before your surgery. However, while recovering, any cough is a violent act that has a possibility of damaging stitches, causing pain, or even causing injury.
So, help protect your coughs from damaging the results of the surgery, hold something soft against your chest. A pillow or large stuffed animal is a good choice. By bracing the soft object against yourself, you will have something to push against while coughing that will not prevent your lungs from expanding and will help keep excess force from transferring into the stitches.
