4. It is absolutely essential to reduce everyday stress. This is not optional.
With the memory loss and fibro fog patients typically experience, it can be frustrating when they are unable to remember what they were doing or how to perform simple tasks. This is stressful for anyone, and this stress will only worsen your pain. When you are in pain, the last thing you can deal with is finding ways to reduce stress. Pain makes life stressful as a whole. But, this is incredibly critical to coping. "Failure is not an option." You must reduce the levels of stress hormones in your body which make the inflammation and nerve pain that much worse.
To reduce feelings of stress, you should:
- See a cognitive behavioral therapist. This form of therapy examines how thinking influences how you feel and what you do. If you have emotional distress, cognitive therapy may help manage your disturbing thoughts.
- Set boundaries. You may need to change your work schedule or your home schedule. Only do the things that you can physically do, and communicate to others that you have fibromyalgia and enlist their help.
- Educate friends and family about the condition. And then do it again. As much as people want to understand, it's difficult.
- Try discussing your symptoms and issues when you are not feeling your worst. This way you can explain your situation in a calm voice when pain is not at its peak.
