Fibromyalgia: Beyond the Pain

A few tips to help maintain proper mental health

Good strong mental health is also about being able to process information, to be able to use reason to push through some of those barriers and see the other side.  A few ways to ensure proper mental health are:

  • Practice self-care: This is especially important for those fibromyalgia sufferers who have lots of responsibility in their lives. Remember to take a bit of time to do something that doesn’t revolve around having a disorder or taking care of someone else. Take a warm bath, indulge in a good book, and if physically able, take a long easy walk.
  • Talk to someone: Talking helps, a lot.  Find support groups, talk to a pain management specialist or pain psychologist, or find someone going through the same thing.
  • Be grateful: Okay, this one can be a little difficult to do, especially when there will be days where the pain and suffering seem endless. But, finding even just the tiniest thing to be grateful for can help maintain good mental health.
