Instead, give them back their dignity by complimenting them. Even little compliments are lovely like “You have beautiful quilts in your room, Jenny.” This small compliment went a long way to brighten up a resident’s day. She hummed all through the afternoon.

Another aid jokingly comes into the room of a person with ADRD and gives her daily medications. He does so with a smile, a little hug, and always a joke. It’s almost like flirting. The patient loves the attention.
