Hank Swartout was born in Calgary. In 1951, He used the funds from a mortgage on his house to start a company known as Precision Drilling. Not only the founder, he became the CEO of the company as well, until his departure in 2009.
By the time he left, Precision Drilling was making seven billion dollars in annual sales. It is still the largest drilling rig contractor in Canada, and has its hand in other oil related fields. It continues to grow.
