Lifestyle Tips for Managing Fibromyalgia Symptoms

Past Beliefs About Fibromyalgia

It was believed for a long time that fibromyalgia had no discernible physical factors behind its symptoms and that the disease was manifested purely as somatization of an underlying mental condition, as the patients who were diagnosed with fibromyalgia often also suffer from psychological disorders such as depression, and generalized anxiety disorder, among others. However, this theory was debunked when researchers found the cause of fibromyalgia in the aforementioned chemical imbalance. Furthermore, they also found that, while the causal connection is yet to be established, fibromyalgia symptoms are exacerbated by certain factors, such as neurotransmitter and hormonal anomalies, abnormal sleep cycles, and excessive levels of stress and anxiety on a daily basis as well as the failure by the person to keep said levels in check.

That being said, it is clear that, while fibromyalgia definitely has a physical factor behind its incidence, it can also be worsened if the person is under constant and excessive psychological duress, such as the one caused by a hectic work schedule, unhealthy sleeping habits, and poor emotional intelligence.

In this sense, there are several methods that those who suffer from fibromyalgia can follow in order to ease their symptoms, and get through each painful in the best possible way.
