Lung Transplant Breathes New Life Into Patients With Cystic Fibrosis

Up to 200 CF patients undergo lung transplants each year

Since the publication, approximately 150 to 200 people diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, mainly teens and adults (the typical age range for lung transplants is 18-63), have undergone lung transplants each year, according to a patient registry run by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  The registry shows that over eighty percent of recipients receiving new lungs survive a year and over fifty percent are alive after five years.
