Music Therapy for Fibromyalgia
What exactly is fibromyalgia?
For those who may not be familiar with this condition, fibromyalgia is the most common musculoskeletal condition after osteoarthritis. It is also often misdiagnosed and misunderstood, and many people don’t even realize they have it. Some of the common fibromyalgia characteristics include widespread muscle and joint pain and fatigue. This condition can also lead to depression and social isolation.
One of the unique things about fibromyalgia is specific locations on the body that, when pressed, hurt. People without fibromyalgia would only feel pressure.
Symptoms of fibromyalgia:
- Pain areas: in the muscles, abdomen, back, or neck
- Pain types: can be chronic, diffuse, sharp, or severe
- Pain circumstances: can occur at night
- Gastrointestinal: constipation, nausea, or passing excessive amounts of gas
- Whole body: fatigue, feeling tired, or malaise
- Muscular: muscle tenderness, delayed onset muscle soreness, or muscle spasms
- Sensory: pins and needles, sensitivity to cold, or sensitivity to pain
