Much of the chronic pain that these patients suffer is difficult to treat, making opioids an easy way out and a quick fix. This makes the drug that much more dangerous for these people. It's highly addictive, so long-term use is not advised. However, if your pain is chronic, then you might be enticed to use it for longer than intended, putting you at high risk for addiction.
