1940s
- “A low-fat, high-protein diet with a liberal allowance of vegetables, fruits and sugar and moderate restriction of starch. Supplementary vitamin A is essential and pancreatin and vitamin B complex are given,” recommended pathologist Dorothy Andersen for CF patients.
1950s
- Pancreatic enzymes were used to help CF patients absorb necessary nutrients.
1970s
- A nutritional supplement (including beef serum protein hydrolysate, glucose polymer, and medium chain triglycerides) was proved effective for CF patients.
- The ‘Allan Diet’ was proved successful for weight gain in CF patients.
- Acid-resistant enzymes, Creon and Pancrease, were released.
- A high-saturated fat diet of whole milk, eggs, butter, and animal fats was recommended for weight gain in CF patients.
