Two Medical Breakthroughs for Spinal Muscular Atrophy Treatment
What were the results in this clinical trial?
The children who were given the antisense drug and spinal cord injections are showing progression. However, researchers did not imagine it could possibly happen. Out of 73 children who were treated, 37 showed evident improvement. They were able to do activities such as rolling over, raising their head, and standing. The 37 children included in the control group who were pin pricked and put a band aid on the lower side showed no improvement. The children who were successfully treated lived longer. The earlier they were treated, the better outcome they had. When these results arrived, the treatment used in the clinical trial was used in the control group as well.
