The Unexpected Complications of Rheumatoid Arthritis
Heart complications
RA can trigger inflammation of the membrane that surrounds the heart, known as pericarditis. It generally develops during flares and if the inflammation is persistent, it can interfere with your heart’s ability to function properly. Although inflammation of the heart muscle, known as myocarditis, is a rare complication, it can occur. Since those with RA are at an increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease or stroke, you should consult with your doctor if you start to experience any heart-related complications.
