How to Take Control of Crohn’s Flare-Ups

Speak to your doctor about vitamin supplements

Vitamins and minerals play an important role in how to body functions, and people with Crohn’s disease are less likely to receive all of the nutrients necessary for keeping healthy. Working with a dietician may help determine whether or not the individual requires additional supplements, which may prove beneficial given that those with Crohn’s disease have a higher risk of developing a vitamin or mineral deficiency.

Calcium can be difficult for Crohn’s disease patients to obtain in the body, as it tends to come from dairy sources, a common trigger. Yogurt is a potential source of calcium with little or no lactose. Other than calcium, individuals should watch their iron, magnesium, potassium, folic acid, vitamin B12, and vitamin D intake. Keeping these vitamins and minerals in a regular diet can help ensure that the body functions the way that it is supposed to.
