Incorporating Exercise Into Colitis Treatment
It's okay to skip sometimes
Overexertion can result in unwanted consequences such as dehydration and overheating. Do not rush the process of getting into shape; it takes time. Don’t be afraid to take breaks when you are tired. Whatever exercise routine you decide to get into, and regardless of your fitness level when you start, it is always important to listen to your body. You know your health better than anyone, and your body will tell you if something is too much. By listening to this, you can avoid situations that instead of helping, worsen your colitis symptoms.
It is also important that when you feel unwell or are having a flare-up that you take a break. It is okay to skip exercising when you are not feeling well. The last thing you want is to make your flare up worse! Let your body use its energy to heal. Once you are feeling better, ease back into your exercise routine. Remember, you are doing this to make yourself feel better, not torture yourself! So, find something you enjoy, and listen to your body.
