These Mittens Can Help Rheumatoid Arthritis Symptoms
Problems with traditional gloves and mittens for RA
As most individuals who live with rheumatoid arthritis know, cold weather can exacerbate arthritic conditions and make the pain nearly unbearable to live with. Living in New England, Marita was no stranger to the extreme temperatures of winter and the effects they could have on her hands. She recounts how she used to drive with one hand while the other was between her legs to keep it warm. She would then have to switch back and forth between hands just to make travel manageable. Obviously, gloves and mittens aren’t a new concept, but Marita discussed how traditional mittens aren’t helpful. In order to find gloves that would actually keep her hands warm, she had to buy pairs that were extremely thick. At that point they inhibited the use of her hands and were also difficult to put on. During an arthritic flare-up, gloves that are difficult to put on are the last thing an individual wants to worry about.
