Another fact about CF involves diagnosis of the disease. Although all newborns are now tested about 10 days after birth for CF via the sweat test, the condition can be diagnosed at any age. Diagnostic issues are at play. For those born before the universal law for testing newborns for CF, any number of people may have been misdiagnosed and treated for unrelated conditions. Or, as was the case with Michal Winehouse, his symptoms of CF were not typical and it took three years for his diagnosis. For Martha Lane, her diagnosis did not come until she was 21.
