12-Year-Old Boy with Muscular Dystrophy Becomes a Chicago Blackhawk for a Day

Mason Berg and his parents were excited and giddy for the morning skate-around. Before joining the team on the ice, Mason had the chance to witness the team have their practice play on the rink. As the practice session commenced, Mason enjoyed naming each player as they pass right in front of the lucky child. He was also cheering for each player as he proudly wore his own Chicago Blackhawks shirt.

With his ice gear on and a hockey stick on hand, Mason was ready to conquer the ice rink in his humble wheelchair. To skate around, proud dad Dan helped him wheel across the rink as mom Patty videotaped and took snapshots of the wondrous moment.

On the ice, Mason was able to shoot some pucks proudly. His favorite moment in the heartwarming experience was scoring on the team’s goalie Anton Forsberg. Apart from that, he had time to throw playful punches on the player Jonathan Toews. Both had a lot of fun as Mason decided to do a classic prank on Toews. Mason mischievously gave Toews water on a bottle with an unscrewed cap after a fun run in the rink. As Toews grabbed the “friendly” drink, water splashed on his face giving him a good clean. According to Toews, the prank was all fun and was amazed by how Mason pulled it off without any of his teammate’s ideas. Asides from playing with the team, he met the Chicago Blackhawks’ coach. Mason was able to take official photos with them and had his shirt autographed by all the players.

To finish the grand morning Mason had, he with his lovable parents, watched a live game of the Chicago Blackhawks against the Colorado Avalanche last March 20^th. All of the efforts of the team and foundation gave Mason the best day of his life and was truly unforgettable for the family.
