Short answer: I think so! Pain is often an indicator to us that something is not working properly and needs our attention. There is an intimate link between muscles and joints. If you think of a pulley system, there's a round pulley with a groove for a rope to go over it... and if the pulley has nothing interfering with it, you can pull up and down on that rope and the pulley would move smoothly. The pulley is like your joint, and the rope is like your muscle. Muscles move joints and if all is well and good, they work perfectly and there's no problem. Now think if that pulley was jammed and you try to then pull the rope. It would have more friction, be harder to move, and eventually the rope might tether and fray. In the same way, your muscle will strain, spasm, fatigue, and maybe get irritated and inflamed. If you only address the muscle, like exercise, massage, stretch, ice, etc. it would be equivalent of replacing the rope on the jammed pulley. It might work for a while but eventually the rope would tether and fray. So what would we need to do? I hope you said unjam the pulley... and that's what we as chiropractors do. That being said, if you have a tethered and frayed rope and you unjam the pulley, would that fix the rope? It might move with more ease, but maybe the damage that was caused might still need to be addressed. That's why afterward, if you want to "replace the rope" by doing massage, ice, exercise, stretch, etc. then that would be great! This is why I think chiropractic is often the missing link when it comes to muscle disorders.

Yes! Back muscle pain is horrible, but see a chiropractor and start to strengthen your core. Abdominal muscles and glutes need to be strong to relax back muscles
