Audiologist Questions Herpes

Can herpes cause hearing loss?

My husband had herpes a while ago, and the infection somehow spread to his ears. He still isn't able to hear clearly. Is there a connection between herpes and hearing loss?

Absolutely. The virus that affects the ears is called Herpes Zoster and can definitely affect the hearing and occasionally also the balance mechanism. He should see an audiologist to have a hearing test completed!
Herpes simplex infections or reactivation of the infection can cause hearing loss and vestibular symptoms (dizziness). Discussing your husband's current symptoms with his treating physician is important in order to get the proper treatment.
