Can remedial massage help scoliosis?

I have scoliosis and want to treat it. Can remedial massage help scoliosis?

yes, regular massages can help ease discomfort and pain brought by scoliosis.
Hi,        Thank you for reaching out. Massage can help treat soreness/tightness associated with scoliosis (as can chiropractic care and the PT routines we would set up for you) but it won't permanently improve/reduce the curvature of the spine. Conservative care can reduce the functional aspect of the curve (not the structural part which would be the actual shapes of the bones). Think of it as symptom reduction and management rather than cure. I hope this helps.  Best, Kam Team PHC
I am not aware of any Scientific Research as to massage helping straightening Scoliosis at all. Nor have I heard of any anecdotal evidence either of this helping. Yet, I am pretty sure that the massage treatment would give you some temporary relief and I would highly recommend you get massage therapy as it has a number of positive effects. Sometimes Chiropractic Treatment can help straighten a Scoliosis. There is research on that fact and also I have personally seen many patients throughout my career that have had corrective straightening of their Scoliosis. I have had a few that didn’t respond with straightening of their Scoliosis, but at least received pain relief and the Scoliosis did not get any worse. This is without the use of any Bracing, just Chiropractic specific Adjustments and traction of the intersegmental spinal joints effected by the Scoliosis. There are types of misalignment and Scoliosis that I can tell after an X-Ray that will not straighten as a result of Chiropractic treatments, although these are the minority of patients I have seen in the past 28 years. Call me at 336-773-1177 to schedule a complimentary Consultation including you bring in any Imaging studies that we can review together to see if I can help you at all with your Scoliosis. I look forward to hearing from you and trying to help you.
