Emergency Medicine Questions Emergency Physician

Could my medical problems be due to my past hysterectomy?

Over the past 2 years, I was in the emergency room a lot due to failed multilevel cervical surgery, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, cervical, thoracic, lumbar radiculopathy, degenerative disc disease pinched nerves, broken vertebrae, and a broken wrist. I am 52 years old and had a hysterectomy at 35 with no hormones. I know this is factor in bone issues but looking at labs my anion gap has been a consistently low range of 1 to 3 and chloride as high as 112. Can this cause worsening symptoms? I can longer work due to conditions that are causing cognitive problems now. TIAs began a month ago.

You need a highly regarded general internal medicine doctor and maybe a cardiologist. While the osteoporosis is concerning (and I hope getting treated), the TIAs are a red flag. Go to the American College of Physicians website and look for doctors in your area who have "FACP" after their names. Another way to find one would be to go to the emergency department of the nearest hospital (8-10 a.m. is a good time) and ask if the charge nurse will recommend one.
Hello, this is not my field and a gynecologist or a rheumatologist is a better person to answer this question for you and recommend a course of treatment for you to follow. Make an appointment with one of these specialties to help you to get a handle on this.
Consult Endocrinology. Consult Functional Medicine.
There is not enough info to make a definite diagnosis, but below are a few possibilities that need to be clarifed by a good INTERNAL MEDICINE MD or KIDNEY SPECIALIST:

1) low anion gap can be a clue to MULTIPLE MYELOMA--so a BONE SURVEY(xrays of your skeleton looking for lucencies), a SERUM and URINE PROTEIN ELECTROPHORESIS, and a BONE MARROW BIOPSY(to be done if clues to the diagnosis are present)

2) Elevated chloride can be a clue to the presence of METABOLIC ACIDOSIS--which can weaken bone and other tissues--it can result from chronic diarrhea or kidney issues

3) Chronic dic dz results from injury or trauma to the spine--sports injuries, car accidents, falling, military service, doing heavy/physical work like lifting or moving heavy weights
