If it is approached with multimodal pain control with TAP block (type of local anesthesia to abdominal wall), usually patient is sent home with NSAIDs the next day after surgery without any narcotics. Patients are usually ready to go back to work in a week.
You should receive adequate pain management. All Surgeries are painful.
I usually prescribe 5 days of pain medication for my patients, and many do not need to take all of the pills. It is uncomfortable but tolerable.
