It depends on what type of scoliosis. There could be structural scoliosis or functional. If it functional where u develop scoliosis over time throughout life course then Yes absolutely physical therapy is a must for realignment of posture, proper postural correction, positioning, stretching one side where muscles are curved and shortened called concave and strengthening the other side which is called convex. There is so much more what therapy does for scoliosis so the answer is yes.
Yes physical therapy is effective for scoliosis. Depending on the severity of your curve we can work on stretching muscles that are chronically shortened from the abnormal curves in your spine, perform hands on techniques to reduce pain and muscle spasms, and strengthen areas of the back musculature to improve your tolerance to activity.
Yes, physical therapy will help with the muscular compensations that happen due to scoliosis. The pain you feel usually is a result of the muscles around the scoliosis, not the spine itself.
Yes especially initial stage . Accurate exercise can slow down disease progression and effectively control posture and improve function
Hi. It depends on your definition of "effective". Disclaimer: there is a special certification of education that specifically treats scoliosis. You could look into a PT who specializes in Schroth Method. A general orthopedic PT can help guide you on a mobility and strength program to manage symptoms and keep your body moving well. However, in my experience (and I am not certified in Schroth Method), I have not seen physical therapy to 'correct' the curvature of a scoliotic spine. I treat the individual's symptoms and complaints and help them achieve their functional goals, despite their anatomy.
