Yes, radioactive iodine treatment is generally considered successful in the treatment of certain thyroid conditions, including hyperthyroidism and some cases of thyroid cancer. To learn more, connect with me at drjeromepuryear.com. Thank you!
Radioactive Iodine is one of the most effective treatments in medicine. When used to treat hyperthyroidism the results are generally excellent. There is a good chance the thyroid may be unable to produce adequate thyroid hormone after the dose but this is easily treated. The thyroid is the only organ to actively take up and use iodine so there are very few side effects. Drinking extra water around the time of the dose will decrease salivary exposure to the iodine. I have recommended Radioactive Iodine treatments hundreds of times and have had less than 10 times that it was not effective.
