Rheumatologist (Pediatric) Questions

Knee and joints pain

Hello, I recently started having pain in my knees and shoulders. My knees make a grinding sound and they pop. My shoulders hurt and they pop as well. This issue is making me weak and it’s affecting my daily life. I’m no longer able to sit down on the floor like I used to. It hurts me severely when I fold my legs while sitting. I recently moved to a different country and my diet has completely changed. This issue started a couple of months ago and slowly got worse. Is there a way to treat this issue and what are some recommendations for me? Thank you!

Hello, I would suggest seeing a rheumatologist in person so that they can evaluate you for arthritis. Are you having additional symptoms of fevers, joint swelling, morning stiffness in the joints, rashes? They should be able to ask you all these questions and see if you have inflammation in your joints.
Unfortunately, I recommend you go to a physician for a full exam. You may need to work on strengthening your muscles around the joints that are popping. Consider physical therapy for guidance on how to approach muscle strengthening. Popping is not a sign of arthritis necessarily. You may take ibuprofen as needed for pain relief.
