Cardiologist Questions Cardiologist

Should I go to the hospital for heart palpitations?

I have heart palpitations. I want to know if I should go to the hospital for heart palpitations?

1 Answer

That would depend on whether you have any symptoms associated with the palpitations. Symptoms might include chest pain, lightheadedness, feeling that you might faint, shortness of breath. It also depends on how long the palpitations last. What we find is that most of the time when patients with palpitations come to the emergency room the palpitations have already gone away. I would suggest that you see a cardiologist. The cardiologist will give you a number of tests including a monitor for anywhere from 24 hours to several weeks. The most important thing for anybody treating you is to know exactly what the palpitations are.
