Yes, depending on the surgery. The back brace if needed would only be for a certain of weeks.
The purpose of a brace is to restrict back movements and thus to avoid pain, without any therapeutic effect. If there is a fusion of the vertebrae, a brace may be needed to support the fusion until the fusion heals solid. Back pain only comes from strained muscle/fascia where the pain is. Back pain is NOT related to the spine, disc or nerve, pinched or not. Treatment must be focused on the release of the jammed-up tissue, but NOT surgery. It takes 1-2 hours of soft tissue release to cure pain relying on light touch to initiate self-healing.
