“What are the benefits of laser eye surgery?”
I have myopia and want to fix it. What are the benefits of laser eye surgery?

Lasik will correct your distance prescription so that you no longer need eyeglasses or contact lenses for distance viewing. You may still need to wear reading glasses when you reach middle age years, which is the time when most people start to lose some of their natural reading ability, which lasik does not typically correct, although there are some procedures that will now help correct some near vision.
The simple answer is that you won't need to wear contact lenses or eyeglasses for your daily activities.
The primary benefit of LASIK is excellent vision and independence from glasses and contact lenses. It truly feels like a miracle to wake up and be able to see, drive, experience life with no correction after a lifetime of dependence. For many people it is a dream come true, but most people have a lot of fear and imagine LASIK as being more difficult than the ten minute procedure actually is. Hopefully you know someone that has had LASIK and you can trust their experience. The most common statement by LASIK patients is that they wish they had done it sooner.

Laser eye surgery will reduce or eliminate your need for glasses or contact lenses. Depending upon your amount of nearsightedness and/or astigmatism, your corrected vision should make you safe and less reliant upon those same glasses or contact lenses. If you are applying for any job where visual problems are a disqualifier, having laser corrected surgery will eliminate that issue. But there are some jobs in the military or police forces where you must check to see if laser vision correction is acceptable on-the-job. If you are interested in this process, I would make an appointment with an ophthalmologist/refractive surgeon in order to determine if you are a candidate and what your options, costs, risks, and benefits are in the short term and in the long term.
Good luck and best wishes.
