Their are many different types of anxiety and once diagnosed it's important to understand the choices you can make with treatments. Taking prescriptions, such as a mood stabilizer is one of them. However, do your research on the side effects. Another choice that you have in treatment is using essentials oils or aromatherapy. Different scents can be very calming and place you in a more relaxed state naturally. Other treatments include: practicing routine breath work, surrounding yourself with humor and positive people or entering in an isolation tank to float. How you decide to manage her anxiety is up to you, choose wisely.
Anxiety is certainly on the rise in our country, if not the world. I think the first step would be to be seen by a psychologist or therapist to determine the nature of your anxiety. What is causing it? Where does it come from? Usually when the underlying issue is identified, treatment approaches present themselves. Depending on the answers, there may be some problem-solving or relaxation/mindfulness techniques to reduce stress and regulate nervous system. There are also some medications that are very effective at targeting neurotransmitters that are associated with anxiety. If the anxiety is more acute, there are stronger alternatives, but not suitable for regular or long term use.
Most anxiety medications are intended for short term use, so it's important to have tools available that are medication free to calm anxiety.
I will coach my clients in mindfulness and thought change exercises.
Anxiety is often aggravated by past traumatic events and fear of the unknown around future events. With mindfulness we focus on the hear and now that does not include the past or the future. That might include meditation, deep breathing, being in nature and focusing on something very simple even the pencil in your hand to take your mind and thoughts away from past and future events..
Anxiety is also a problem because we may have a sense that we have no control over our situation. So focusing on what actions you can take and following through with those and then using thought change exercises to shift from ruminating on possible negative outcomes to more positive, or even neutral thoughts relieves anxiety, as well. Hypnosis can be a valuable tool to anchor these practices into the subconscious mind so they're more natural and easily accessible when anxiety arises.

The best treatment for anxiety is often a combination of talk therapy and structure. It is important to find the therapist with whom you have a good fit, since so much of what happens in therapy occurs within the context of a psychologically safe therapeutic relationship. If you have tried talk therapy for some time and you are not feeling better, you may want to consult with your primary care provider or a psychiatrist (your therapist can often recommend someone) about trying a medication. Structure includes creating a schedule for yourself that includes nourishing your body properly, moving your body, maintaining a good sleep schedule, and interacting with other people. The combination of therapy, medication and structure can help you manage your anxiety symptoms well.
It depends on what type of anxiety you have, the severity of it and the impact it has on your life. Therapy with or without medication is very effective but I suggest you get evaluated by a psychologist to see what is the best treatment for you.
