What deficiency causes hair loss in dogs?

My dog has hair loss. What deficiency causes hair loss in dogs?

1 Answer

There are multiple causes of hair loss including ectoparasites, endocrine disease, hypersensitivity reactions (e.g. allergies), or infection. Zinc-responsive dermatosis is often represented in huskies and malamutes or a few other large breeds, is typically limited to the face and does respond to zinc supplementation. Deficiencies in omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids may also result in hair loss, and copper deficiencies may result in color dilution but not hair loss.
