Can aspirin cause stomach issues?

My grandpa takes aspirin constantly for chronic arthritis pains. He's also suffering from digestive difficulties. Can aspirin cause stomach issues?

Yes, in some people, aspirin might cause stomach erosions or ulcers. But this won't happen if you take an antiacid pill like prilosec daily along with the aspirin.
I would make sure the amount of aspirin your grandfather is taking is monitored by a doctor. Aspirin is a medication that can effect the platelets in your blood. If taken on an empty stomach or at high doses, there is risk of bleeding in the gut. Because of the bleeding risk, aspirin can absolutely have the side effect of blood in stool, stomach pain (potentially from stomach ulcers), heartburn, inflammation of the gut, and potential nausea and vomiting. I would make sure a doctor is monitoring how much he is taking and see if it is the best option for his arthritis pain.
Aspirin is well known for causing gastric side effects. It can cause ulcers and GI bleed. Not a good treatment for arthritis, especially in the elderly age group.
Aspirin can cause upset stomach, heartburn and GI bleeding. Your grandfather should stop taking the medication and see his primary care physician. There are other medications that he can take for his arthritis.
