Physicians Assistant Questions Varicocele

Does varicocele cause blood in semen?

I have varicocele, according to my primary care physician, but they found a little bit of blood in my semen. Does varicocele causes blood in semen?

No. Most of the time blood in the semen is due to prostatitis.
A varicocele forms due to dilation of the veins that drain blood from the testicle. They are more common on the left side and do not always cause problems. They do not cause blood in the semen but may affect fertility in some men. Blood in the semen, or hematospermia, is usually a self-limiting problem, but can sometimes be an indication of prostate infection or
prostatitis or even prostate cancer. If you see blood in the semen, you should visit your local urologist for further evaluation.
