“How does physical therapy help sports injuries?”
My son twisted his ankle badly while playing soccer and he's not walking the same way. Do you think he should go to physical therapy to help his ankle?

Yes, for the speediest recovery I would have him see a physical therapist and get the rehab process going. He needs to gain strength, ROM, and stability in his ankle to resolve the current pain and prevent the ankle from twisting over and over.
Definitely. It will heal on its own with time, but therapy may be the root of the injury and keep him from returning too fast.
Hello, Yes, I think physical therapy is essential for this type of injury. Physical therapy will help your son regain range of motion, strength, and work on balance and proprioception (knowledge of where your body is positioned in space) as demanded by his sport. Twisting your ankle can result in an ankle sprain, which can become a chronic problem (happening more often) if left untreated as ankle sprains impair proprioception and balance. This can result in a loop of twisting your ankle, recovering with, and twisting your ankle again. Physical therapy is effective at breaking that loop and therefore, I find it beneficial to your son. Hello sir. Yes physical therapy will help as it will strengthen the muscles and provide physical and functional exercises to meet the goals of the treatment after the assessment
Absolutely! PT will make your son feel better, will properly manage pain and swelling and will make sure he doesn't compensate in a way that could lead to additional injury.
Yes, your son will benefit from physical therapy. Your physical therapist will perform a thorough physical examination to determine the need and what impairments will need to be addressed. More than likely, ankle control exercises, strengthening exercises, and return to sport activities to make sure your child is physically fit to return to sport after a few weeks of not training and playing their sport.
