Allergist and Immunologist Questions Cetrizine

What is the safe dose of cetrizine for kids around 5 years of age?

My son is 5 years old and every time we travel he gets an allergy that makes him sneeze and cough with sneezing. What is the safe dose amount of cetrizine that I can give him?

Usually 5 mg. This assumes he/she is on no other medications that might have additive side effects
There is a range that is quite wide and safe. Cetirizine is a safe medication and sometimes if we need control of certain hard to control symptoms such as hives we can go to high doses - 10mg or 10ml/day. I would start with 5ml (5mg) for you son and, if necessary, increase to 7.5ml or even 10ml if necessary. However, if your child is on any other medications or have other medical issues, you should check with his pediatrician first - that is the appropriate way to handle questions about medications.

Hi,

The usual recommended dose for a six-year-old is 1 teaspoon or 5 mL or 5 mg by mouth daily. I would usually recommend 4 mL or 4 mg in my 5-year-old patients. However, I would recommend checking with your child's pediatrician. There could be extenuating circumstances that would suggest a different dose. I hope your child (and the rest of the family) have a safe and enjoyable trip!
The maximum dose of cetirizine is 5mg daily. It can be dosed once daily or split as 2.5mg twice daily. I highly recommend seeing an allergist to get allergy tested so you can identify what the allergic triggers are and treat preventative Ly as well as incorporate environmental controls.

Hello, 5mg should be the right dose. In a pill or syrup form
