Orthopedist Questions Knee replacement surgery

Can I start playing tennis six months after my knee replacement surgery?

It has been six months since my knee replacement surgery, and the doctor says that my knee has healed well. Can I resume playing tennis, or should I wait a little bit longer?

It's ok to play. However, doubles tennis is best. Singles may put excessive stress on the implants and may cause them to loosen prematurely.
If largely pain-free with good motion, and a stable knee, you should be okay to return at 6 months.

What does your surgeon say?
Most people that undergo Total Knee Replacement surgery cannot play tennis, period. How often were you playing before your surgery?
I think it’s probably okay to play if you warm up properly; but, here’s the thing: if you were playing a lot of tennis prior to the TKR surgery, not really knowing your history, I’d have to say that you would NOT be a candidate for such surgery in the first place.
It is not just time that determines whether you can return to your desired activities. You must have restoration of adequate range of motion, full strength in your muscles, and resumption of training and practice. Most importantly, you must have permission from your surgeon before returning to play.
The knee prosthesis is not so you can return to play tennis, it's just so you can walk. Talk about it with your doctor, please.

Yes, you can play tennis.
