“What should my son be eating for his kidney health?”
My son had a kidney infection quite recently, and the infection came really sudden. It was definitely from a UTI but he didn't experience any symptoms until it spread to his kidney. Should he be changing his diet to maintain his kidney health?

I dont think your son necessarily needs to change his diet. I would suggest extra water - half your sons weight (pounds not kg) in ounces- and sip throughout the day versus all at once. Also decreased intake of sugar. Whatever caused the UTI to spread doesnt mean something is wrong with his kidneys. If your son gets another kidney infection in the near future, then I suggest seeing a doctor and having testing done for kidney function. Stress can be hard on the kidneys, and meditation or yoga could provide relief. *Sheri Weitz, RDN,CDCES* *Pronouns: She, Her, Hers* *Gentle Wellness Coaching | Functional Nutrition* *Zumba and Cardio Dance Instructor* *310-780-8647 | **www.MovetoWellness.net <http://www.MovetoWellness.net>*
Only if his doctor has determined that the infection has altered his kidney function. As a general rule, the DASH diet (https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/education/dash/following-dash) is the one I recommend because it reduces the risk of high blood pressure, is excellent in helping people with kidney stones not firm new stones, and is ideal for losing weight if combined with adequate exercise.
