“What's the best way to treat pneumonia symptoms in my child?”
My daughter is 1 years old and was diagnosed with pneumonia. The hospital prescribed her azithromycin 2.4ml/daily but the fever, cough and runny nose are causing her to not sleep well. What's the best way to treat pneumonia symptoms to comfort my child?

If the pneumonia is a bacterial pneumonia the best way to treat it is with antibiotics. It typically takes 48 hours for the symptoms to improve after starting the antibiotics. You can give your daughter Children’s Tylenol or Motrin to help with the fever
Was this a focal pneumonia? If so, it is usually caused by pneumococcal infection and they respond better to augmentin or omnicef, etc., than zithromax. This is usually given when we suspect mycoplasma pneumonia, which usually doesn't have high fever. You can give Tylenol for fever and keep the nose suctioned with saline and increase fluids. If fever persists, she may need to be rechecked and change antibiotics.
