Surveying cognitive abilities
Janelsins and her colleagues utilized a well-established questionnaire from the FACIT Measurement System. The organization was first published and validated in 1993, and has since developed over 90 questionnaires for people living with chronic illnesses. While the focus of the group is on cancer in particular, FACIT has developed tools useful in understanding in many different aspects of quality-of-life across numerous chronic illnesses.
The questionnaire used for the study conducted by Janelsins and her colleagues was the FACT-Cog, short for the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy – Cognitive Function. The questionnaire asks participants to self-report their own understanding of their cognitive impairment, as well as the way that others have perceived it.
