Wayne Lipscomb received her stage 2 cancer diagnosis in September 2012. She was sure that she was going to die and was unsure of how to tell her family. She made plans to hold a family meeting and tell the whole family all at once, but never went through with her plans. While visiting her youngest son Will and his fiancée, the two had asked her about moving in with them into their new house. She was so overwhelmed with emotion that she blurted out that she had breast cancer. They stood silent for a few seconds and then reassured her that she would be fine. Will and her oldest son, Philadelphia police officer Moses Lipscomb, were there for her through every treatment and surgery that she went through.

One day, Wayne received some incredibly heartbreaking news. Her son Moses was killed while trying to stop an attempted robbery. She was overwhelmed with grief and canceled her treatments for the next few days. She thought about not going, but then found herself going to the hospital with the support of family and friends. Employees had heard about her son and were as kind as possible to her during her treatments. She is now cancer free and has started the PO Moses Walker Jr. Corporation, which seeks to teach adolescents important life skills.
