Having been practicing in Morristown for over three decades, Dr. Blum is a full attending physician at Morristown Medical Center, the major heart hospital in the state. He served as the former director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory.

Morristown Medical Center prides itself on providing top quality education to visiting physicians, medical residents, students, and other health care professionals. Through on-going teaching efforts in multiple areas, Dr. Blum has been able to pass along his knowledge to others.  With the exciting addition of the specialty Gagnon Heart Hospital in Morristown, he and his colleagues continue to provide first class care for their patients in an exciting new and relaxing environment. 

In the early days of his academic career, Dr. Blum obtained his medical degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 1983. He then went on to complete his residency in cardiology at Mount Sinai Hospital. 

Moving to New Jersey in 1988, he underwent further specialty training in interventional cardiology at the Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, before moving to Morristown with the introduction of the heart surgery program there in 1989.  

A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI), the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Providing top quality care has always been Dr. Blum’s main focus. With this in mind, he has been active in clinical research, providing his patients’ access to new medications and technology long before they are available to the general public. Early work in coronary stent research, radiation delivery systems to treat heart disease, and electromagnetic cardiac imaging systems have led to major clinical advances in the field of interventional cardiology.

As for his academic appointment, Dr. Blum is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).
