What drug is good for a seasonal allergy?
There are plenty of medications for allergies which are OTC. There is no one that is good, better or bad - the different medications can be helpful based on the symptoms of the patient. For example oral antihistamines like Claritin, Zyrtec or Allegra work on sneezing, itching and drippy nose or eyes. The nasal sprays like Flonase, Nasacort or Astepro work more on nasal congestion and other nasal symptoms. I would suggest discussing your daughter's specific symptoms with either her pediatrician or an allergist to get the best recommendation. Does the covid vaccine trigger allergic reactions?
I am sorry to hear that your aunt had an adverse vaccine reaction. Vaccines are generally safe however adverse reactions can happen with any type of vaccine. Most of those reactions are not allergic but they require evaluation by an allergist/immunologist to determine safe administrations of vaccines in the future. I would advise that she has a formal evaluation by an allergist. Monika Korff, MDFACAAIoffice-410-730-6000www.allergyasthmamaryland.com READ MORE
How do you treat allergies in children?
There are options in terms of management of allergic rhinitis - choice is guided by the symptoms the patient is experiencing. Pediatricians are well versed in making suggestions and if the child is still struggling you can always see an allergist for more testing and to create a treatment plan. Excessive histamine production?
There are several things that could be going on here and I do not believe that it is as simple as excess histamine. Several of the possibilities could be related to some immune issues so I would advise seeing an allergist/immunologist to take a more detailed history, review your medications (sometimes adverse reactions to long-term medications can be an issue), and then decide on proper testing. I hope that helps. READ MORE

How do you tell allergies from a cold in the winter?
it is quite hard even for medical professionals to tell the difference sometimes as the symptoms overlap and are often the same. If the symptoms are now and he is not febrile there is a high likelihood they are allergy-related. Also if they are lasting more than a week or 10d they may be more allergy-related. If you are concerned then have your child see the pediatrician who may be able to help in deciding which one is more likely. READ MORE
What can a 10 year old take for seasonal allergies?

What makes children allergic to peanuts?
Unfortunately food allergies are on the rise and much more common now than decades ago. We do not know why kids become allergic to foods, we do have a fairly good understanding of the process once it is initiated. The immune system develops an IgE antibody to the food protein and that antibody triggers allergic cells to release mediators responsible for the symptoms of an allergic reaction - itching, hives, swelling, wheezing, and trouble breathing. etc. I would suggest seeing your kid's allergist and monitoring the food allergy on a regular basis.
